Tent (onsite with Grand Teton Mountains). Ripstop nylon, mesh, velcro, grommets, tent poles, steel, and tarp.
A juxtaposition of permanent and temporary. Camping culture and carrying a mountain on your back. This tent was made to used outdoors, sleeps 10, and packs up small enough for one person to carry. I took it on a road trip to the Grand Teton Mountains where I used to work. I wanted to do a photo shoot to see how it looked, and how it felt. There was a distance of around 2 miles between the mountain range and my tent. And I liked that the boundaries of the ‘piece’ became indistinct. The work now included the tent, the mountain range, and everything in between.
When you drive around the actual Teton mountains in Wyoming, it’s like driving around a huge sculpture. The forms change from different vantage points. And I tried to do the same with the mountain tent, with distinct viewpoints from each side.
